House Majority Leader Eric Cantor gave the following remarks today in support of House anti-trafficking bills. His full statement is below:
"Mr. Speaker, I rise today in strong support of the Preventing Sex Trafficking and Families Act, and the other anti-trafficking bills we have on the floor today in furtherance of our efforts to bring an end to this abhorrent crime.
"Mr. Speaker, human trafficking continues to be one of the world’s great dangers, threatening millions of innocent lives - including right here at home in the United States.
"Our very own Department of Homeland Security describes human trafficking as ‘a modern day form of slavery involving the illegal trade of people for exploitation or commercial gain.’ The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children estimates that between 100,000 - 300,000 children in America may be trafficked for commercial sex every year.
